The Early Childhood Program (ECP) at Red Rocks Community College is offering spectacular Summer Institutes. You can earn three college credits in a week by taking one of the following classes.

Children's Literature
ECP 291 001

Literature can provide starting places for extended learning that fills one day or many. This course explores children’s literature, reading and sharing favorites, learning about good literature and how to use and extend good books with children ages 0-12. With participants, Debra Ihrer will explore thoughtful and practical suggestions that engage young readers. Instructor Debra Ihrer has taught toddlers, preschoolers and 1st and 4th graders.

Introducing the Arts to Children
ECP291 002

Light, color, water and other elements of the natural world can become explorations that last days into weeks with preschool and primary children. Using some of the methods of the Reggio Emilia approach to education, participants will explore extending ideas with children through dramatics, dance and movement and weaving. The class will be focused ion how to extend the ideas of children through creative experiences. Pamela Mincher, director of RRCC's theater department and veteran of children's improvisational theater, Becky Clark, dancer, movement and early childhood teacher and Debra Ihrer, weaver and early childhood teacher, will share the techniques they use to involve children of all ages.
