Course Description:
Violence among children often takes the form of angry outbursts, aggression towards peers and staff, and other disruptive and dangerous acts. The problem that early childhood professionals/teachers experience with children’s violent behaviors is that the staff member’s attempts to stop it quickly and control the child with standard behavior-management techniques usually don’t work. Staff are often frustrated and sometimes frightened by their inability to manage this violence because of the danger to other children and even to themselves. This course gives childcare professionals a wider range of strategies to deal with children’s violent behavior. Learn what a child might be trying to communicate through angry behavior. In addition, early childhood providers will be trained in safe and simple self-protective techniques that can be used in cases where children become physically violent.
